Green Up Day

Saturday, May 4 is the time to get out in Williston and clean up our roadsides to make a huge difference for the environment! 

In 2023, Williston collected 1.79 tons and 42 tires (down from 1.93 tons & 71 tires in 2022). Can we beat our record?? 

Learn more about this longstanding Vermont tradition and support Green Up Day, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, by purchasing a t-shirt or reusable water bottle on their website. 


How Green Up Day works: 

Use the Green Up Vermont App:
  Build a team, track routes, communicate, set challenges and locate trash. Download here: Apple Store or Google Play.
  Tip: The app only works on a smartphone, not a desktop. If you are choosing a section of road, place several pins along the route from beginning to end. If you need help, stop by the P&Z office at 7878 Williston Road for assistance. 

Pick up Green Bags: 
  Limit 1-2 bags per person. Please return unused bags, we have a limited supply. Groups & kids: use grocery bags or buckets then consolidate to green bags. 
  April 22 to May 3: A limited daily allotment of bags will be available at 24/7 self-service station outside Town Hall Annex, 7878 Williston Road. 
  May 4: 9am-1pm at Town Fair on the Village Green, 40 Central School Drive 

Green up Williston! 
  Before heading out, review the safety card below and share it to your team. Leave filled bags and large, unbagged items like tires on the side of a state or town road. Many groups like to green up the preceding week. Return unused bags to Town Hall Annex so we can use them again next year. Report your work to us or on the app. 

Attend Town Fair! 
  Saturday, May 4 at the Village Green. Stop by before or after greening up Williston for coffee and snacks, Town Band concert, Library story time, REI trail mix station, photo booth, and more. Event participants include REI, Williston Observer, Friendly Lens, Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, and town boards & departments!
Schedule:
  9:00am    Town Fair begins; green up bags  & coffee available 
  10:30-11am  Library Story time (inside DAML)
  12:00pm    Town Band Concert 
  1:00pm     Town Fair concludes; Pollinator program at DAML, 1-2pm
  All day - Green up routes at designated times & locations throughout town led by Williston community groups and volunteers. Stay tuned here for details.
